Job Title: Communications Specialist
Type: age 30 & under / summer

Location: Aurora, York Region/GTA ON (options to work remotely)

  • Position Type: Contract – 8 weeks @ 35 hours per week
  • Remuneration: $18/hr
  • Start Date: May/June 2024
  • Reports to: Manager, Digital Communications

Summary

Windfall Ecology Centre is a non-profit social enterprise dedicated to building sustainable communities. Working at the nexus of climate, energy, and water, we research, design, and deliver innovative climate change solutions. Our record of accomplishment includes achievements in public policy, residential energy efficiency, renewable energy, electric mobility, water protection and leadership development.

Windfall Ecology Centre is seeking a post-secondary student for the position of Communications Specialist. The successful applicant will directly report to and work with the Manager, Digital Communications to manage Windfall Centre's Marketing Communications strategy and provide communications support to the Program Managers.

This successful applicant should have a background in Communications with sound knowledge of research for communications, content creation and social media management. This is a summer contract job position, but training will be provided to the applicant to understand Windfall Centre's programs to enable the applicant to function successfully in the role. The Manager, Digital Communications will also provide support and mentorship where needed.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Engage in in-depth research of relevant industry trends and aggregate data from research
  • Engage in data collection, management, and analysis
  • Research engaging content topics for website and social media posts.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining content calendars for the company's programs
  • Assist in developing and editing written and visual content for all our communications platforms (websites, newsletters, social media).
  • Tracking and reporting social media engagement on all the company's social media platforms
  • Collaborating with the Communications Manager to develop and implement communications plans to support the organization's overall key objectives.
  • Attending scheduled staff meetings, events and training sessions as required (occasional weekend/evenings)

This position is funded in part by Canada Summer Jobs. This funding is available for applicants who are aged 15-30 and are legally eligible to work in Canada.

Qualifications

What you will bring to the role:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree or diploma in Communications, Digital Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or related fields.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Knowledge and interest in climate change, energy efficiency, and renewable energy
  • Sound knowledge of the principles and practices of content research, creation, and marketing.
  • Excellent organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Tech and social media savvy
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Graphic design and video editing skills would be considered an asset
  • Ability to work with, grasp, and simplify technical concepts
